Android Apps at Hello App 6.0
The Assignment
All the participants had the same base requirement – to create a quiz app containing at least a Dashboard, a Quiz question and a Score screen. On top of this, they also had the opportunity to add further features and design the app as they wish. We gave them a few ideas to choose from, but there was also room for creativity, so each team could come up with their own concept and ideas to add.
Some ideas we shared with the participant are: social media integration, timer for question/quiz, randomise functions, questions shown based on previous answers, quiz difficulty, option to skip a question, Firebase integration (log in, get, post data), quiz map, gesture detection, vibration detection using Android accelerometer.

The Final Apps Developed at the Workshop
Four teams have completed their Android apps this year. We were happy to see that all teams developed the base requirements and some managed to add a few extra features as well.
For the final app presentations, we gathered at Ambasada. The participants showcased their apps, spoke about the app features but also about the implementation process and their experience at Hello App 6.0.
Check out the apps developed during this year’s edition, below.

Rock'n'roll Music Quiz
Hello App Rocks
Hello App Rocks is a rock’n’roll music quiz developed by Cosmin and Darco. The app has 3 playing modes which you can access right from the main page – Classic, Metal and Guess the song. You can choose a mode to play from the home page and you will receive music-related questions that you will have to answer to in a given time frame.
The app has a leaderboard where you can see stats with top scores achieved in the app. Firebase DB was used to display these statistics on the leaderboard page. Also, those who’ll want to support the team’s work, will be able to do so through the dedicated support page.

Treasure Hunt App
Hunt & Know
Hunt & Know app was developed by Andrei and Codrin. This app comes as a complementary tool for treasure hunt style contests. Once the user logs in, he can choose a team name to get started. Each team plays on one device.
From the home page, the user can scan a QR code to start the quiz. Once the quiz starts, there are 10 questions with only one correct answer. Once the user completes the quiz, the app redirectes him to the home page. Then, he has to wait for the next location. At the next location, a new QR code will be available & the process is repeated. At the end of the contest, the players can check the leaderboard to see the score.

General Knowledge Quiz
Qriosity
Qriosity app is a general knowledge quiz developed by Begüm and Ionuț. The app has 6 categories with questions from certain topics. In each game, you can skip answering certain questions. Once you finish the quiz, you can try playing the game again to get a better score. Also, you can share your score with the apps installed on your phone.
Each player has a profile page in which he can log in via Facebook and see his personal stats. In addition, on the leaderboard page, the results from each category can be compared. The quiz has a dedicated page for the game rules. You can find an “about” page as well with more details about the app.

Multi-Choice Quiz
Quizzer
Quizzer app was developed by Chary and Robert. The app is a multi-choice quiz with questions from 5 categories. There are several correct answers for some of the displayed questions.
These questions from the quiz are displayed in the app using Firebase DB. The login and register features were also developed using Firebase.

And The "Best App" Award Goes To ...
🥁…Team Qriosity!
The prize for the “Best App” developed during our Android workshop was: two very cool Google Home Hub Max devices. Team Qriosity went home with the prize. The team succeeded in gaining the most points by doing a great job developing their app; they included a lot of features and also managed their tasks efficiently, as a team.
Congrats to all participants for an amazing job developing their Android apps in Kotlin! We were happy to see such great results and we’re looking forward to the next edition of our free Android app development workshop.
