ABOUT
PLAI is a multicultural festival that takes place every year, in the middle of September at Muzeului Satului Bănăţean from Timişoara, Romania. The festival is organized entirely by volunteers and we are happy to contribute through our pro bono initiative by creating the festival app for iOS and Android.
We first developed the iOS and Android app for PLAI Festival back in 2013. Since then we are updating the app every year with new features and the festival info.
PLAI Festival 2019
New Content, Favorite Events Section and Notifications
Last year, during our internship program, we rewrote the iOS and Android app and updated their design & functionalities. This year, we added new content in the app and made a few adjustments to get them ready for the 2019 edition.
We updated the festival map as PLAI 2019 will be taking place at the same location but in a different part of the Banat Village Museum.
All the events that you mark as favourites in the app appear in the “Favourites” tab in chronological order. We added a new notification which gives a heads up for each upcoming event.

Updated Design & Functionalities Using React Native
This year, we decided to re-create the apps in new, modern technology so we updated the design and functionalities of the app using React Native and Firebase.
Now, the apps have simplified tab navigation and trendy horizontal scrolls for the event categories and highlights. Events are organised into categories and days, plus, events and activities can now be marked as favourites.
Participants can also receive push notifications from the organisers and can read information about artists, the festival and browse the festival map.

PLAI Festival 2015
New Home Screen Design, Icons and Festival Info
The apps had all the related information about the festival. This way, the participants could easily access the festival program, read more info about the festival, tickets, camping, map and other info.
Also, the 2015 update of the apps consisted of a new home screen design, new set of app icons, and also updated sections and content.
PLAI Festival 2014
Redesigned, Native Apps with a Simplified Navigation
A year later, in 2014, we redesigned the apps and rewrote them to be fully native. We simplified the menu and navigation in the apps so that the users could navigate easier.
Also, we updated the apps with the latest details about the concerts, cultural events, workshops and tickets & schedule.
PLAI Festival 2013
The First Release of the PLAI Festival Apps
We helped the organizers by developing the official iPhone and Android apps. The apps’ role was to gather all the useful information about the festival in one place, at the fingertips of the participants.
This way, the participants could be easily informed before and during the event by just opening the app and looking at the details about the venue and the events, partners, cultural events, guests, tickets and most importantly, the daily schedule.
